Job Description

System Setup and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux operating systems, including user accounts, file systems, and network configurations. Ensure proper system initialization, startup, and shutdown procedures.

Server Administration: Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity. Perform routine system maintenance tasks, such as applying patches, updates, and security fixes. Manage user access, permissions, and file systems. Set up and maintain system backups and disaster recovery procedures.

System Security: Implement and enforce security measures to protect Unix systems from unauthorized access, viruses, malware, and other security threats. Configure and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls. Monitor system logs for security incidents and perform regular security audits.

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve system-related issues, including hardware failures, network connectivity problems, software conflicts, and performance bottlenecks.

System Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Implement monitoring tools and techniques to proactively monitor system performance, resource usage, and availability. Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend and implement optimizations to improve system performance and efficiency.

System Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline system administration tasks, automate repetitive tasks, and improve operational efficiency. Utilize shell scripting languages like Bash or Perl for system automation.

Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and changes for management and stakeholders.

Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network administrators, database administrators, and developers, to resolve system-related issues, implement changes, and support system integration efforts. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is often preferred. However, practical experience and industry certifications can also be valuable.

Unix/Linux Administration Experience: Strong proficiency in Unix/Linux system administration, including experience with operating systems such as Linux, Solaris, or AIX. Demonstrated experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining Unix-based systems and servers.

Shell Scripting: Proficiency in shell scripting languages, such as Bash, Perl, or Python, to automate system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.

Networking and Security: Understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP fundamentals, and network troubleshooting. Knowledge of security best practices, firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection systems.

System Monitoring and Performance Tools: Familiarity with system monitoring tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus, and performance optimization techniques for Unix/Linux-based systems.

Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking to diagnose and resolve system-related issues. Ability to analyze system logs, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Cloud and Virtualization Technologies: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Docker, Kubernetes) is beneficial.

Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and vendors. Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
